Introduction :
Navratri is to celebrate the goddess Durga for killing the demon, Mahishasura (Immortal Asura). 9 days of celebration 'Nav Ratri' brings rest and rejuvenation into life through passionate dancing, devotional practices.
Navaratri, meaning "nine nights" in Sanskrit, is a Hindu festival dedicated to the worship of the goddess Durga and her various forms. It is celebrated with great enthusiasm and devotion across India, particularly in the states of Gujarat, West Bengal, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu. Navaratri typically occurs in the Hindu calendar month of Ashvin, which usually falls in September or October. The festival lasts for nine nights and ten days, during which devotees observe fasting, perform rituals, and participate in colorful cultural events.
Each of the nine nights of Navaratri is dedicated to the worship of a different manifestation of Goddess Durga, known as Navadurga. The festival culminates on the tenth day, which is celebrated as Vijayadashami or Dussehra, marking the triumph of good over evil. In many regions, elaborate processions are held on Vijayadashami, featuring effigies of the demon king Ravana being burned, symbolizing the victory of Lord Rama over evil. Navaratri is also a time for vibrant celebrations, with traditional music, dance, and folk performances such as Garba and Dandiya Ras being integral parts of the festivities. The festival serves not only as a religious observance but also as a celebration of culture, community, and the spirit of unity among people.
